So this trip is getting better. Day 2 in Berlin was much more enjoyable than day 1 even with some terrible jet lag. We couldn’t get to sleep till nearly 3am local time last night. Tried to get up at 9am but that wasn’t happening at all. Finally got up at the crack of 1pm and didn’t get out of the hotel till 2:30. We’re rapidly acclimating to local time so tomorrow should be even better.
We first went and grabbed some food at a bistro near the hotel. Much sausage was consumed by all.
Next up was a run around the Gendarmenmarket which is right across the street from the hotel. This is a public square consisting of a concert hall and 2 former cathedrals.
Next we took a walk up to the Unter den Linden and Brandenburg Gate. Along the way we passed a car dealer that happened to have a Buggati Veyron in the Window.
We also got to see lots of the famous east German crossing signal named Ampelmann.
Finally to the Brandenburg Gate.
Then on the the Reichstag just a few steps away. If you think ahead and make reservations you can go up into the dome but we did not and the line was half a mile long.
Also caught a glimpse of this German victory memorial but we decided to save it for tomorrow.
We did walk into the Tiergarden though and saw several other monuments. The first was a monument to several composers including Mozart.
Although again I’m missing a picture and don’t know why.
We also found the Soviet WWII memorial where 2000 soldiers are buried
And be careful in the Tiergarden. Stepping in slug is not fun…
And a long range shot of the Berlin tv tower…
The day ended with the wife doing a little shopping and more sausage consumption and now here I sit blogging.
Day 2 was much better if shorter and my impression of Berlin has improved despite continued wind rain and cold. This central area is much nicer than what we saw yesterday.
Current plan for tomorrow is checkpoint Charlie, the pergemon museum and whatever else we can fit in.
